Drain and Culvert Cleaning on the Beetham Highway

As part of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure’s 2026 Desilting and Flood Mitigation Programme, intensive cleaning operations are currently underway along the VMCOTT Main Drain and Culvert Crossings on the Beetham Highway. The works involve the removal of significant quantities of debris and illegally dumped waste that have accumulated within the drainage infrastructure, restricting the natural flow of water. In some areas, garbage build-up inside manholes reached heights of up to six feet, highlighting the severity of blockages and the urgent need for intervention. These activities form part of the Ministry’s broader efforts to strengthen drainage systems nationwide and improve resilience ahead of periods of heavy rainfall.

As Trinidad and Tobago enters the 2026 rainy season, proactive flood mitigation and drainage maintenance remain critical to protecting communities, safeguarding infrastructure and reducing the impact of severe weather events. Ahead of periods of increased rainfall, the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure’s Drainage Division has intensified its nationwide maintenance programme to ensure that major watercourses, rivers and drainage channels are functioning efficiently.

The A.P.T. James Returns to Service

The A.P.T. James has successfully completed a comprehensive maintenance programme, following dry-docking on the AMT Goliath at the National Marine Maintenance Services Company Limited. The scope of works included critical hull maintenance, sandblasting and repainting, propulsion and engine servicing, as well as extensive safety inspections and system testing. These activities were carried out to ensure the vessel meets the required operational and safety standards supporting its long-term performance, reliability and efficiency.

APT James Becomes First Vessel Serviced on New AMT Goliath
The APT James is officially the first vessel to be serviced on the nation’s new semi-submersible heavy-lift floating dock, the AMT Goliath. Senior officials of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, including Permanent Secretary Ian Ramdahin and Deputy Permanent Secretary Ronald Alfred, visited the National Marine Maintenance Services Company Limited on Friday 21 November, 2025 to witness the scheduled dry-docking of the vessel.
