Desilting of the Arouca River, Arouca

The Drainage Division of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure has successfully carried out desilting works along the Arouca River. Over time, silt and debris build-up reduced the river’s ability to channel stormwater effectively, increasing the risk of flooding for nearby communities.

Tributary to Oropouche River, Oropouche
As part of its nationwide flood mitigation programme, the Ministry’s Drainage Division undertook desilting works on a key tributary to the Oropouche River. The tributary was affected by sediment deposits and blockages, limiting its drainage capacity and raising concerns for residents of surrounding communities.

Site Visit at Ongoing Retaining Wall Project at the St Joseph River

On Tuesday 4th May, 2021, Senator the Honourable Rohan Sinanan, Minister of Works and Transport, the Honourable Terrence Deyalsingh, Minister of Health/Member of Parliament for St Joseph, Mr. Navin Ramsingh, Chief Technical Officer and a technical team from the Ministry conducted a site visit of an ongoing drainage project at the St. Joseph River to assess the status of the project.

MOWT Preps for the Rainy Season !

The Ministry of Works and Transport has continued to improve its operational strategy for the Drainage Division through the use of equipment to execute its mandate. The Water Master Amphibious Dredger is the newest piece of equipment to be procured by the Ministry, ahead of the rainy season, to complete its annual Drainage Desilting Programme.
