MOWT Responds to the Existing Condition of the La Horquetta Walkover

The Ministry of Works and Transport duly notes the concerns of the general public as it relates to recent footage circulating in the public domain on the existing condition of the La Horquetta Walkover. Given the understandable level of concern for safety, the Ministry would like to take this opportunity to clarify some key points as it relates to the maintenance and upgrade of this particular structure.

Repairs to the B1/2 Bridge at Golden Grove Road Commences

On Tuesday 13th October 2020, the carriageway that spans the length of the B1/2 Bridge, Golden Grove Road collapsed making the roadway inaccessible to localized traffic. The Ministry of Works and Transport is mindful of the criticality of this connector bridge as it serves as a main access point between the Churchill Roosevelt Highway and the Eastern Main Road. As such, works are ongoing to restore unencumbered travel to drivers in the shortest possible time.

Confirmed Arson on Bamboo # 1 Pump Site : On October 12th 2020, the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service (TTFS) confirmed a deliberate attack of arson on the Bamboo #1 Pump Site, Bamboo #1 Settlement, Valsayn.

No New Appointments at the San Fernando Licensing Office

The Ministry of Works and Transport wishes to inform the general public that all new appointments at the San Fernando Licensing Office have been placed on hold until Tuesday 13th October, 2020. New appointments at the San Fernando Licensing Office will resume on Wednesday October 14, 2020.

Extension of the Validity of Expired Driver's Permits

The Ministry of Works and Transport wishes to advise members of the public of recent amendments to sections 19 (7) and 61B (1) of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 48:50 (MVRTA). The amendments were brought into operation by section 25(a) and (b) of the Miscellaneous Amendments (No. 2) Act, 2020. The Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic (Extension of Time for the Validity of Certain Documents) Order, 2020 signed by the Minister of Works and Transport, the Honourable Rohan Sinanan on the 14th day of September 2020 further extended the validity of drivers permits, taxi driver licences, badges, certificates or other documents issued by the Licensing Division which expired on or before 31st August, 2020 to be deemed valid until 31st December, 2020.

Deadline Extended for the Submission of applications for the Taxi Owner Fuel Relief Grant

The Ministry of Works and Transport wishes to advise the general public that the deadline has been extended for the submission of applications for the Taxi Owner Fuel Relief Grant from Friday 28th August, 2020 to September 18th, 2020.

Extension of the validity of expired driving permits to September 30th, 2020

Section 19 (7) of the MVRTA allows for any transfer of registration required to be completed on or before 31st August, 2020 may be completed on or before 31st December, 2020 or such later date as the Minister may, by Order, specify.

Licensing Introduces New Online Appointment Booking System
