Responds to Protest Action at North Oropouche Road, Sangre Grande

Release date: 9/14/2022

The Ministry of Works and Transport (MOWT) is aware and has been paying close attention to recent protest action conducted at North Oropouche Road, Sangre Grande.

As it relates to the impacted area, reports have indicated that the roadway was affected by a leaking Water and Sewage Authority (WASA) water line, which has impeded vehicular access.

The Water and Sewage Authority (WASA) is currently addressing the issue and the Ministry will continue to monitor the situation.  While the Drainage Division does have an existing project in the area to improve the river channel, the current challenges affected by the residents are as a direct result of the leaking water main.

It should the noted that WASA has engaged a contractor to repair the leak.  The MOWT will continue to monitor ongoing repair works undertaken by WASA and ensure that the road is reinstated to an acceptable level when the project is completed.
