MOWT Debunks Fake News of Overcrowding at Caroni Licensing Office

The Ministry of Works and Transport is deeply concerned about the circulation of inaccurate information as it relates to the congregation of large crowds at the Licensing Head Office-Frederick Settlement, Caroni. The current outbreak of COVID-19 is certainly unsettling. Paranoia is a totally normal reaction. However, the public is urged to refrain from circulating inaccurate information that can lead to unnecessary panic in the public domain.

To treat with the possibility of overcrowding, the Transport Division implemented several crowd control measures over the last week. To date, the Division has implemented a schedule of services at three of its locations. Persons conducting transactions at the Caroni, Port of Spain and San Fernando Licensing Offices are now required to pre-book appointments for Inspections, Transfers, Reclassifications, Notification of Change and Application for Provisional Permits. The Licensing Division will continue to operate during normal working hours (Monday- Friday, 8:00AM to 4:00PM); however, the “Officer in Charge” will continue to implement measures where necessary to mitigate congestion.

During this period of public uncertainty, the Ministry urges citizens to be rational and responsible in our actions as we collectively navigate this global pandemic.

The following is a synopsis of the scheduled system for accessing services at the Caroni, Port of Spain and San Fernando Licensing Offices.
