VEHICLE INSPECTIONS

WALK IN SERVICE: A Walk-In Service is currently in effect for the Vehicle Inspections. Senior Citizens wanting to conduct renewals or any driver's licence transactions can also make use of the walk-in Service. Appointments are no longer required for these transactions.

REQUIREMENTS TO INSPECT PRIVATE AND COMMERCIAL VEHICLES

 In order to inspect a private or commercial vehicle, the following are required:

  • A valid form of Identification/National ID Card or Passport)
  • A valid Driver’s Permit
  • A valid Certificate of Insurance (the vehicle must be brought to be inspected)
  • A Certified Copy/Extract
  • Personal and commercial vehicles must be in a clean and roadworthy condition at all times 

PRIVATE VEHICLES

  • Private vehicles with a manufactured date (not date of registration) of five years or older and with a TARE weight of 2270 kg and under are required to have their vehicles inspected at an authorised testing station (private inspection garages)
  • After the first inspection, vehicles are required to be inspected every two years thereafter   
  • Vehicles with a manufactured gross weight of above 3,200 kg are required to be brought on to the Licensing compound to be inspected (Caroni, San Fernando and Port of Spain Licensing Office Only)  

   The fee to conduct a vehicle inspection is $300.00
 

COMMERCIAL VEHICLES

  • Owners of commercial vehicles should carry the documents requested and pay the necessary fees. A date will be assigned to return to the respective Licensing office.
  • Commercial Vehicles (T, H, R and others) are required to be brought onto the Licensing Office compound for inspection
  • Owners of commercial vehicles are required to have their vehicles inspected on an annual basis

         The fee to conduct a vehicle inspection is $300.00
 

NON-INSPECTION OR EXPIRED INSPECTION STICKERS

  • A person who fails to produce a vehicle for inspection or drives a vehicle without obtaining an inspection sticker and certificate commits an offence and is liable, on summary conviction, to a maximum fine of five thousand dollars (Regulation 21 (11)
  • Reference is made to regulation 27 of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 48:50

The Ministry of Works and Transport has granted authorisation to a host of vehicle inspection stations
