Sea Lots Pedestrian Overpass


The Programme for Upgrading Roads Efficiency (PURE) Unit was given the responsibility to design and construct a pedestrian overpass in the vicinity of the Central Market, Port of Spain near the Beetham Highway. The Sea Lots Pedestrian Overpass has addressed the safety concerns regarding pedestrian and vehicular conflict.

BENEFITS TO PEDESTRIANS AND MOTORISTS

  •  Reduction in travel time for motorists entering and leaving Port of Spain
  •  Removal of the vehicular/pedestrian conflict
  •  Improved Pedestrian Safety (elderly, children and the differently abled)
  •  Improved aesthetics of the area
  •  Reduction in the occurrence of accidents
  •  Reduced traffic congestion
  •  Improved Level of Service of Highway 


SCOPE OF WORKS

  • Demolition and reinstatement of the existing property walls; HDC Compound (western side) and Four Roads Government Primary School (Eastern Side)
  • Construction of reinforced concrete foundations, piers, ramps, and slabs
  • Fabrication, assembly, testing and erection of the main truss superstructure to the walkover
  • Construction of associated drainage works
  • Relocation and protection of existing utility infrastructure
  • Installation of handrails along superstructure, road signs and security fence
