The Programme for Upgrading Roads Efficiency (PURE) Unit of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure continues to advance critical infrastructure improvements along Penal Rock Road, with slope stabilisation works at the 23.3 km mark, now 98% complete. The project includes major road rehabilitation, structural slope stabilisation, installation of a new base course, and essential drainage upgrades. The team has also applied durable thermoplastic road markings (painted lines) to improve visibility and enhance overall roadway safety. With the core components completed, crews are now focused on installing handrails to further support pedestrian safety in this highly traversed area.
These upgrades bring significant long-term benefits to the surrounding communities, improving both connectivity and reliability along a key access route. The strengthened roadway is designed to withstand environmental pressures, reducing the likelihood of slips, roadway failure, or service disruptions. Commuters will enjoy a smoother, safer drive, while residents benefit from improved access to schools, businesses, and essential services. As works near completion, this project reflects the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to delivering resilient, high-quality infrastructure that supports mobility, safety, and development.
