Drainage Works Underway Across South Trinidad

The Ministry of Works and Infrastructure’s Drainage Division is continuing its drainage maintenance and flood-mitigation programme across South Trinidad, with desilting and cleaning currently underway along the Marabella River, Trinidad River, Blackwater Channel, and Reform Drain. These works involve removing accumulated silt, debris, and vegetation from the watercourses to improve their capacity and ensure efficient stormwater movement, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.

The ongoing works will benefit residents, businesses and communities in surrounding areas by improving water flow and reducing the potential for watercourses to overflow. With the rainy season continuing, the Ministry remains focused on maintaining critical drainage infrastructure across the country to strengthen community resilience, protect properties and help reduce the impact of flooding.
