The Ministry’s Drainage Division heard the concerns of residents in Bamboo No. 2 and surrounding communities, and decisive action to provide relief is underway. The Caroni River Rehabilitation Improvement Works Project is nearing completion, bringing targeted flood-mitigation measures aimed at reducing flood risk and improving drainage capacity in Bamboo No. 2, Valsayn South and Real Spring – communities that are particularly vulnerable during periods of heavy rainfall.
Key components of the project include the raising and strengthening of the embankment between the Valsayn and Guayabal Rivers to prevent backflow from the Caroni River, the installation of a triple-bore culvert with flap gates to regulate water flow and protect surrounding communities, and the addition of a trash rack to capture debris and keep the drainage system functioning efficiently. Flood mitigation in this area remains a priority, with ongoing monitoring and additional works currently being carried out at Nabbie Street and Hosein Circular to safeguard homes, businesses and livelihoods.
