The Ministry of Works and Infrastructure’s Drainage Division is currently undertaking a major drainage improvement project along the Bermudez Main Drain on Law Street, off Bridge Road in Mt. Lambert. This project focuses on strengthening the area’s flood management capacity through several key interventions, including the installation of a high-capacity pump, the construction of a pump house, and the installation of gabion mattresses to stabilize the embankment and prevent erosion along the channel. Works also include constructing an access roadway to facilitate operations and long-term maintenance of the drainage system.
Once finished, the project will significantly improve the community’s ability to manage stormwater, particularly during periods of intense rainfall flowing from the Northern Range into the nearby San Juan River. By increasing drainage capacity and reinforcing the channel, the works will help reduce the risk of flooding, protect surrounding homes and businesses, and enhance the resilience of drainage infrastructure in Trinidad and Tobago. This investment represents an important step toward safeguarding the Mt. Lambert community and improving preparedness during the rainy season.
