This project intends to reduce the frequency and severity of coastal erosion and inundation along the Manzanilla/Mayaro Road and provide protection for the backshore structures including the roadway, public and private property and key infrastructure.
Benefits
- Reduced erosion and flooding impacts – Helps limit coastal erosion and inundation along the Manzanilla–Mayaro Road.
- Protection for a major roadway – Safeguards the road and nearby homes, businesses, and infrastructure.
- Restored and strengthened beaches – Sand nourishment and buried shoreline protection help rebuild and stabilize the coast at South Manzanilla.
- Added coastal defenses at Point Radix – A new seawall with base protection helps shield the shoreline from wave action.
- Greener, more natural protection – Vegetation and landscaping help stabilize the shoreline while enhancing the natural environment.
- Improved site safety and management – Perimeter fencing supports safer, more controlled use of the area.
