Minister of Works and Infrastructure The Hon. Dr. Surujrattan Rambachan

The Hon. Dr. Surujrattan Rambachan, Minister of Works and InfrastructureDr. Rambachan successfully contested the Tabaquite constituency on May 24, 2010 and was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs on May 28th. Dr. Rambachan previously served as a Senator and Minister in the Ministry of Industry and Tourism and as an Ambassador to Brazil during the 3rd Republican Parliament (1987-1991). He was appointed an Opposition Senator in the 9th Republican Parliament after a hiatus of almost 20 years.

Dr. Rambachan was a founding member of the Organization for National Reconstruction (ONR) in 1980, where he served as Deputy Political Leader of the party. He is a prominent academic and cultural activist, and is also a former mayor of Chaguanas. Dr. Rambachan is an outstanding Ramayan scholar, Bhajan singer and politician. He played a vital role in the formation of Indian Arrival Day as a national celebration.
