About the PURE Unit

The PURE (Programme for Upgrading Roads Efficiency) Unit a specialised unit of the Ministry of Works and Transport that emerged out of a restructuring of the Ministry’s Highway Division in 2002.

Vision

The predominant project management/design organization for the implementation of road infrastructure projects critical to both the sustenance of national economic development and the increased and improved accessibility of communities, irrespective of institutional boundaries.

In moving towards this vision, PURE focuses on:
  • Strategic Project Implementation
  • Individual, Team, and Organisational Competence
  • Private Sector Partnering / Inter-agency and Inter-Ministerial Cooperation
Responsibilities of the PURE Unit

Projects undertaken by the PURE Unit can be classified into four main categories:
  • Slope Stabilization
  • Road Rehabilitation
  • Alternative Access Routes
  • Traffic Management Measures
As such PURE projects consists of the strategic implementation of:
  1. Traffic Management Measures
  2. Alternative Access Routes
  3. Failed slope reinstatement and stabilization
  4. Improvements to existing road infrastructure
