Dr. Rambachan successfully contested the Tabaquite constituency on May 24, 2010 and was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs on May 28th. Dr. Rambachan previously served as a Senator and Minister in the Ministry of Industry and Tourism and as an Ambassador to Brazil during the 3rd Republican Parliament (1987-1991). He was appointed an Opposition Senator in the 9th Republican Parliament after a hiatus of almost 20 years.
Dr. Rambachan was a founding member of the Organization for National Reconstruction (ONR) in 1980, where he served as Deputy Political Leader of the party. He is a prominent academic and cultural activist, and is also a former mayor of Chaguanas. Dr. Rambachan is an outstanding Ramayan scholar, Bhajan singer and politician. He played a vital role in the formation of Indian Arrival Day as a national celebration.
