WT GT Text Notification Service (SMS Alerts) seeks to target the demographic without access to smartphones. MOWT anticipates that this product will increase accessibility to information by the public. 


Background

Is a free broadcast subscription text service from the Ministry of Works and Transport (MOWT). The service is our new medium of informing the public of our road work activities and emergency road conditions. When the Ministry is set to undertake any roadworks or implement any traffic changes, or the ministry learns of  any emergency  situation that will affect commuters, subscribers to the WI GT service  will receive a single notification of such situations via text message.

G. T. - GET TEXTS, WHY?

  • To obtain regular texts on road works and project or traffic management arrangements when it is available
  • To alert pedestrians and motorists of major projects and for them to be aware of the major infrastructural work/projects that can increase one’s safety
  • To avoid traffic backlogs/reduce traffic congestion
  • To Improve Punctuality at work
  • To conducting chores in Cities, Towns, Boroughs and Villages
  • To encourage citizens to adopt pre-trip planning as it relates to infrastructure development. That is to coordinate plans and chores around these major projects
  • Texts reach large audiences because it is convenient
  • The service is free to all users
NB: In initiating  this public text information service, MOWT wishes to remind motorists that in accordance with the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act (MVRTA) it is an offence "to have charge of a motor vehicle, on any road while holding or using a hand-held mobile device."
