Update on Amendment to Regulation 27 of the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Regulations to allow comm

Release date: 7/6/2018

On July 06th 2018, Cabinet agreed to amend Regulation 27(1) of the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Regulations (MVRT). This change will allow “T” registered vehicles with an MGW of up to 3200kg, to be inspected by approved private garages across Trinidad and Tobago every two years, similar to the provision for light motor vehicles registered for private use.

To operationalize this new system, the Ministry of Works and Transport is currently working with the Office of the Attorney General to amend the said regulation and is in the process of certifying garages that will be approved to inspect this category of vehicles.

Members of the public are advised that all steps are being taken to ensure that this system is fully operational within one (1) month. Further updates will be provided along with a listing of approved inspection centres.

The Ministry believes that this initiative will further ease the inconvenience experienced by members of the public, who hasten to have their “T” vehicles inspected and in compliance with the law.
