MOWT Calls on Citizens to Desist from Acts that Undermine Drainage

Release date: 8/8/2019

The Ministry of Works and Transport (MOWT) has noted with much concern several incidents of theft and vandalism to river embankments across the country. This unlawful practice not only undermines the Drainage Division’s efforts to mitigate flooding but also poses a potential threat to lives and property across communities in Trinidad and Tobago.

The Ministry is currently working with the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) to investigate such occurrences of theft and will look into all reports as a matter of urgency to protect the public’s interest. One such incident has already been referred to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service for criminal investigation and prosecution.

Any act of theft or vandalism will not be treated lightly by the Ministry of Works and Transport. Citizens who are aware of such incidents should report them directly to the MOWT utilizing the 623-MEND (6363) hotline or via email at communications@mowt.gov.tt .

In an attempt to provide the highest value for resources spent on drainage efforts, the Ministry of Works and Transport will not turn a “blind eye” to a few who undermine the investment made by Government to protect communities across Trinidad and Tobago.
