The Sod has been turned for the Gran Chemin Fishing Facility

On Monday 27th July, 2020, the Ministry of Works and Transport turned the sod to mark the start of construction on the s and Gran Chemin Fishing Facility in Moruga. Dr. the Honourable Keith Rowley, Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Senator Rohan Sinanan, Minister of Work and Transport, Senator the Honourable Paula Gopee-Scoon, Minister of Trade and Industry, Senator the Honourable Clarence Rambharat, Minister of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries, Senator the Honourable Kazim Hosein, Minister of Rural Development and Local Government,and Dr the Honourable Lovell Francis, Minister of State in the Ministry of Education were in attendance.

The Gran Chemin Fishing Facility will include:
• Six (6) boat repair stations
• Two (2) paint rooms
• Engine Repair Room with test tanks and a gantry crane
• Net Repair facilities
• 2 (No.) Ice Makers
• Cold Storage
• 4 (No.) Wholesale market stalls
• 12 (no.) Retail market stalls
• 91 storage units (lockers) for boat engines, equipment and fishing supplies
• Water storage
• Package Waste Water Treatment Plant

- Secured locker rooms for the storage of boat engines and fishing equipment
- Availability of ice and cold storage facilities (less wastage of fish)
