B1/1 Galera Road Bridge


PROJECT SCOPE

The project’s scope includes the following:
  • Full reconstruction of the B1/1 bridge to facilitate a higher volume of water, two 3.3m wide lanes of traffic and a sidewalk for pedestrians;
  • Slope protection works inclusive of gabion baskets and reno mattresses within the river channel;
  • Construction of associated drainage channels and sidewalks along the beach side of the roadway;
  • Road rehabilitation on the bridge as well as 50m before and after the bridge
  • With extra savings on the contract, the contractor was able to construct drainage in front of the Toco Secondary School on Galera road 

PROJECT BENEFITS TO THE COMMUNITY             
  • Introduction of new drainage channels to alleviate excess water on the roadway;
  • Introduction of sidewalks along the beach to create a safe pathway for pedestrians and beachgoers;
  • Improvement the bridge’s hydraulic capacity during heavy rainfall events;
  • Employment opportunities were created for the community during the construction phase of the project;
  • Assisted in the alleviation of flooding within Toco Secondary School’s compound and constructed sidewalks and installed handrails in critical areas to improve the safety of students.
